A park bench on El Paseo de La Reforma in Mexico City
Is this not just too cool?
A young woman with an attitude. Or perhaps she's just Out of Sorts.
I modelled her in clay, over an armature of re-bar and heavy steel wire covered with a layer of hardware cloth (rat wire).
I then made a flexible mold from polyurethane rubber which you can see on her head. That was covered with a plaster shell to hold the rubber mold in place. It can be used multiple times.
To cast her in bronze I would have to first cast her in wax, to whatever thickness I wanted the metal to be, then encase the wax in a plaster/sand investment block, melt the wax out, leaving a cavity into which I would pour the molten bronze.
But in this case I cast her in plaster. . .
. . . and painted her in tones of gray as in a black and white photograph.
